i asked this before, but the hostboard shut down so i didn't get to read any responses. anyway. has anyone seen any old shorts done by now famous directors (as in the cheap **** they did when they were nobodys) was it any good?
i saw some martin scorsese short about a guy cutting himself in front of a mirror which was pretty cool, but stanley kubricks day of the fight wasn't impressive. has anyone seen bedhead (robert rodriguez) or within the woods (sam raimi) or anything else?
Beuford C Constantinople
one extra question:
is there a book like rebel without a crew for the making of evil dead? is it any good?
thanks

I've seen BedHead on the El Mariachi DVD.
Its quite funny and the acting is pretty good considering that Rodriguez uses his little brother & sisters in it.
You've got to check out Night Shyamalan's short movie clip on the Unbreakable DVD - its got the worse fight scene on it... but then again considering how old he was when he made it, its not that bad!

Hey there.
Ive seen Bedhead it was great. Ive seen Within The Woods it was **** . Ive seen Whatever Happened to Mason Reese and The Sniper from Brett Ranter they were terrible. Flying Padre by Kubric was p*ss poor. The original Bottle Rocket from Wes Anderson was OK but the remake was a million times better. Hard Case from Guy Richie was cool. I just watched Following it was much better than I expected. Flying Car by Kevin Smith is VERY funnt but its a **** "film".
Ive seen more but I cant think of them now. On the whole they havent been that great.
Despin out.

I've seen Bedhead on the El Mariachi DVD, and thought it was original and alike. I downloaded Within the Woods off of KaZaa a while back, and I think I still have it. I thought it was good for what it was (a demo/practice film to raise money), and for the money it was made for, I disagree with Despin. I also saw a Spielberg Super8 flick he apparently made in high school on A&E a few years back. It wasn't anything special now, but I imagine back then, with what kids were doing it was great.

PS- Yes, there is a book that covers the makin of Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness called "The Evil Dead Companion", which I picked up on a whim expecting complete **** , but it turned out to be surprisingly well written, and contain as much detail as "Rebel Without a Crew", although it only contains excerpts from the only crew member who kept a journal. Worth the read.

KaZaa is just like any Napster-esque program, except some people have video files. www.kazaa.com then do a search
